CM lauds courage of wheelchair-bound jawan

Flight lieutenant Parikshit Hastekar of the Indian Air Force is a man of courage as even after falling from a height of 22,000 feet in the Siachen snow valley, he did not lose hope.

Hastekar met Chief Minister Raman Singh at his official residence on Tuesday and said that after recuperating fully he will join the Indian Air Force duties again. Singh appreciated the courage of young officer and asked the youth to emulate him. Hastekar, a resident of Avanti Vihar colony of Raipur met Singh along with his father Anant Hastekar, mother Aparna Hastekar, wife Soumya Hastekar and other family members. He had joined as a Flight lieutenant in year 2010 after passing out from the National Defence Academy.

Hastekar, on November 8 2010, was providing logistical support to the Indian Army officers on the Siachen line of Control, when his plane met with an accident and he fell from a height of 22,000 feet in the valley. He was immediately airlifted by the Indian Air Force and admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was in a coma for a long time. He was treated at the Army Hospital also. He is now moving on a wheel-chair. Singh wished him a speedy recovery and a long life.
