Chlorine gas leak leaves 37 people ill in Mandideep

Thirty-seven workers fell ill after inhaling chlorine gas which leaked at a factory in Mandideep area on Saturday.

Panic prevailed in Mandideep area after chlorine gas leaked in the afternoon at Specialty Organic Factory. The incident occurred at around 3 pm when Chlorine gas leakage occurred at Specialty Organic Factory. The leakage occurred in the storage which caused the incident. One of the victims was shifted to private hospital of the state capital while three others are kept under observation.

The victims were admitted to community health center while one of the victims Arjun Sahu was referred to state capital for treatment after his condition was reported critical.“Experts would conduct investigation into the matter,” said SDM Rajesh Shrivastava 

He said that in the afternoon workers at Goel Battery Industries fell ill after which they were rushed to nearby hospital. It was found that chlorine gas leakage occurred in Specialty Organic Factory adjacent to Goel Battery Industries.

Enamel paint is produced in the factory in which chlorine gas is used in the manufacturing process. An inquiry would be conducted into the matter and the negligence on the part of the factory would be investigated and strict action would be taken against the factory owner.
