Chhath — the festival of faith — ended on Thursday with offering of ‘arghya’ to the rising Sun. Devotees offered the first ‘arghya’ to the Sun God as a part of Chhath celebrations on Wednesday evening at different ponds at the district. The town and surrounding villages were engulfed by a unique liveliness characteristic of the ‘lok Astha Ka Mahaparv’ as locals were put designer entry gates and decorative illuminations on the ‘ghats’ (Ponds).
While on the second day of the four-day celebrations, that is, ‘kharna’ on Tuesday, the devotees prepared prasad. After taking the prasad, they remained on fast till the morning ‘arghya’ today. People observed ‘Chhath’ with high enthusiasm. Some people observed the four-day Chhath to seek choicest blessings of the Sun god and ‘Chhathi Maiya’, many others performed the rituals as thanksgiving.
Annapurna Devi , MlA from Koderma and Minister in state performed rituals with her family and offered ‘arghya’ at Charadih ‘Chhath Talab’(Pond).
Youngsters looked helping elders with Chhath preparations. From carrying Chhath baskets of fruits and other puja ingredients to the ghats to helping in ‘thekua’ and ‘prasad’ preparation, shopping for the Chhath vratis or taking them to the ghats, youth were at the beck and call of the ‘parvaitins’(devotees) in hope of being favoured with the blessings of the Sun God and ‘Chhathi Maiya’.
