The maximum temperature in Chandigarh reached 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this season on Tuesday. This was the hottest day recorded in April in last four years in the city.
last year, the highest temperature for April was 36.8 degrees recorded on April 21. According to the Met Department, the highest temperature for the month was 37 degree Celsius on April 4 and 10 in 2012 and 39.5 degree Celsius on April 30 in year 2011. It was in 2010 when the city had witnessed its hottest April ever recording 43.2 degree Celsius on April 18 and 19.A Met official said that day temperatures are likely to rise further in next 48 hours across the region.
Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius, three degrees above normal and minimum of 21 degree Celsius on Tuesday.The neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana also continued to reel under heat with the maximum temperature touching 41 degree Celsius in several parts of the two States.The Met official said that the scorching weather conditions continued in the neighboring states with maximum temperatures levels remaining upto five degrees above normal levels in several parts.
The holy city—Amritsar sizzled at maximum temperature of 41 degree Celsius, four notches above normal. Patiala and ludhiana settled at maximum temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius and 40.5 degree Celsius, each three degrees above normal.
