Cabinet Minister Shah bitten by snake; stable

Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Vijay Shah suffered a snakebite in the wee hours of Sunday at his official residence and was rushed to a Government hospital’s intensive care unit by his staff, hospital sources said.

Shah was stated to be out of danger.Shah was rushed to district civil hospital after being bitten by a venomous snake, here on Sunday morning. He was sleeping at his official residence in Shyamla Hills when the incident took place. He was bitten on the hand. He is expected to make full recovery.According to Bhopal district civil surgeon and JP hospital Superintendent Dr Veena Sinha, Shah was brought to the hospital in a critical condition at 3.30 am. Doctors treating the State Cabinet Minister said Shah complained of stuffiness and had fever when he was brought into emergency care.

“He was infused anti-venom injection. He has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) where he will be under observation for the next 24 hours,” said Dr Sinha.Three more doctors were called in on Sunday morning, after Shah complained of dryness of mouth. According to doctors, some patients develop reaction to the slow intravenous injection.

“Pathology tests are being conducted and investigations are on-going,” she added.Snake bites are common in the posh Shyamla Hills area, which also houses the Chief Minister.
