Wednesday, 30 April 2014 | PNS | Ranchi

Police awaiting medical, forensic reports

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed confidence about some action on the part of administration in the Chanho rape incident, in which a senior party leader of minority cell was ‘gang-raped’ by armed assailant. However, it has kept all options open.

The incident took place in wee hours of Monday at Masmano village under Chanho police station. “Some work has been done. We are in constant touch with district administration and they have assured us action on the basis of reports,” said state party president Ravindra Kumar Rai.

The party, however, vowed to decide future course of action after the expiry of the deadline of 48 hours issued to the administration for taking action against the culprits. The victim is undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital at Ranchi and her condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, police is yet to move forward in the direction of establishing crime as alleged by the BJP leader and is awaiting medical as well as forensic reports to corroborate the claim made by the victim. The police had interrogated all accused who appeared at the police station on Monday and let them go as they all pleaded innocence.

There is no fresh lead available with the police in connection with the case. “We cannot arrest anyone unless there is concrete evidence is available,” said SP (Rural) SK Jha. Notably, 12 named accused, who had appeared before the police late on Monday had been released with some restrictions. The police are investigating the case from various angles, sources said.

The victim had also accused assailants of beating her husband and misbehaving with her 13-year-old daughter besides setting a vehicle (Scorpio) on fire and fleeing with cash and jewellery.
