In order to press their demand of special status for Jharkhand, State unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is to enforce a day long economic blockade on March 7 across the State. The decision was taken during a core committee meeting held at the party office on Thursday in Ranchi, attended by the senior party leaders and officials.

“To built pressure on the Central Government, an economic blockade will be enforced in the State on March 7 during which the party workers will interrupt the movement of minerals from some fixed locations in the State,” said former State Chief Minister Arjun Munda.  If the Centre does not get alerted even after that, the party will enforce a 72-hour economic blockade in the coming days, he warned.

“The party believes that it cannot stay silent any more on the step motherly treatment on the issue of special status for the State,” Munda said. State has been going through hardships due to the negligence of the Central Government since long, he added.

Furthermore, it was also decided in the meeting that the State party officials will be camping in the districts from March 2-7 to promote one note - one vote for party’s Prime Ministerial candidate.

“During these five days booth committees will be formed as well as a review of organisational structure will also be done,” said State BJP president Ravindra Rai.

The party needed to expedite the organisational and associational activities in the districts, he added.

Rai said that the coming two months were crucial for the party during which the workers would try to establish direct contact with the people in the State.
