Following indecision on BJP’s candidate name in Wednesday’s meeting, the three party ticket aspirants have now initiated campaigns for themselves.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, former city MP and BJP chairman of national committee on legal and Election Commission issues, Satya Pal Jain boasted of his popularity on social networking websites.It was stated in the statement that Satya Pal Jain has crossed the 1 lakh followers mark on his official Facebook page. With 1,01,717 followers on his Facebook page, Pal Jain has the highest number of Facebook followers amongst the political leaders of Chandigarh. He is followed by Pawan Kumar Bansal with 58,808 followers, Harmohan Dhawan with 51,969 followers, Sanjay Tandon with 36,060 followers and Jannat Jahan with 10,543 followers.
“Similarly, Jain is also the frontrunner on Twitter with 1,553 followers. The other leaders are far behind with Bansal having 124 followers, Dhawan having 27 followers and Tandon having 133 followers on Twitter,” stated the statement. Vying for the party ticket, the three-party bigwigs including Tandon, Jain and Dhawan have been flexing their muscles and lobbying hard in Delhi to get party’s ticket in the general elections. Recently, during his visit to Delhi, Dhawan had met senior party leaders including party president Rajnath Singh, lK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari among others. Dhawan had also posted the pictures of the meetings on his Facebook account.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh BJP women wing leaders have approached Arti Mehra, party’s in-charge for Chandigarh affairs and have complained about the misbehaviour of party leaders with women cadre during Wednesday’s meeting. After ruckus in the party workers meeting, Mehra had also called a meeting of senior party leaders and condemned the action of some leaders. Sources said that Arti Mehra have expressed her displeasure on the misconduct of some party leaders during the meeting. The proceedings of the party workers meeting have also been apprised to the Central leadership. Some party leaders are likely to face suspension for the misconduct.n a first of its kind experiment, the party on Wednesday was conducting a ballot to decide which of the four probable candidates including Tandon, Jain, Dhawan and Kirron Kher, should be fielded. But, the meeting was adjourned after party workers came to blows.
