Feeling neglected in the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Uttarakhand Women’s Commission chairperson and BJP member Sushila Baluni may join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
After AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal invited "like-minded" to the party, AAP seems to have become the favourite destination for rebels from the BJP, Congress and other parties who fail to secure ticket in the general elections or Assembly elections.
State AAP treasurer Ranveer Chaudhary said that members of various political parties including the Congress and BJP who worked for the betterment of the State have expressed their willingness to join AAP.
To ensure good governance and freedom from moral and economic corruption, members representing several social groups have come together and formed this political party, he added.
Chaudhary said the some members close to Baluni and representing women’s groups had approached him and conveyed her willingness to join the party.
She is a known personality in Uttarakhand and had participated in the Statehood movement.
She might be feeling suffocated in her party and might not be comfortable with the BJP's style of functioning and tactics being used for the distribution of tickets and winning elections.
According to him, she may secure party membership soon and may be one of the choices for AAP in the coming lok Sabha election but it will be decided in the party meeting.
Other AAP members said that some BJP and Congress members were approaching AAP for membership and wanted to be genuinely associated with the party without seeking posts.
Former Uttarakhand cabinet minister TPS Rawat, PC Thapliyal, SS Pangti and others have already secured AAP membership.
Talking to The Pioneer, Baluni said, “Everyone knows about part in the Statehood agitation. After Uttarakhand’s formation, I had joined the BJP after former chief ministers BC Khanduri and BS Koshiyari assured me a chance to work for the people of Uttarakhand after being elected to the State Assembly or the parliament. Three Vidhan Sabha elections and two general elections have passed since then but I was not fielded by the party. After decades of being a social activist I want to be part of this social revolution and if AAP gives me a chance to work for the people, I may join it."
