Veteran Ollywood actor Bijay Mohanty on Thursday joined the Congress at the party office here in the presence of PCC president Jayadev Jena and party Rajya Sabha member Ranjib Biswal.
Welcoming him into the Congress, Jena said his joining would boost the party’s prospects in the coming elections. “Even though I was not interested in politics, I am inspired by the simplicity and ideology of Rahul Gandhi,” Mohanty said on the occasion, adding that he always has a soft corner for the Congress.
Asked if he would contest the elections, he said, “Why notIJ If I am given a ticket, I would certainly contest.” But he made it clear that he would only like to be a candidate for lok Sabha polls.
Mohanty, who is speculated to be the Congress candidate from the Bhubaneswar lok Sabha constituency, said in reply to a question that he is ready for this seat or any other Parliamentary constituency in the State.
Recently, the eminent actor couple Uttam and Aparajita Mohanty had also joined the Congress. It is not yet known if both or anyone of them would be contesting elections, but at least they are expected to boost the party’s poll campaign.
