Berhampur celebrates Madhu Jayanti with great enthusiasm

The Manav Adhikar Suraksha Manch (MASM) celebrated the Madhusudan Jayanti here on Monday with pomp and gaiety. MASM members assembled at Gandhinagar Square, garlanded the statue of Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das and held a meeting, paying tributes to the great son of Odisha.

MASM coordinator Advocate Abani Kumar Gaya said “Madhubabu was one of the pioneers of modern Odisha. But today, Odisha has been captured by liquor, mines and land mafias which is quite unfortunate. Odisha requires many more Madhubabus to fulfil his dreams for the State.”

Among others, MASM president Upendranath Mishra, secretary Maguni Nahak and members Bansidhar Bhuyan, Dr AR Verma, Rajendra Panda, Govinda Das, Prabhat Kiran Sadangi, Siba Sundar Rath and scribe Prasant Das spoke on the occasion.

The Ganjam Zilla Bikas Manch led by its advisor Advocate Siba Prasad Mishra also celebrated the Madhu Jayanti. Mishra described Madhubabu not only as a great barrister of his time but also as a great sentinel of Odia movement, a freedom fighter and a great social reformer who worked for Swabhiman (pride) of Odia people.

Among others, Manch president Bhukant Sahu, Govind Das, Rajendra Panda, Binod Panda, Basanta Panda, Bipra Charan Mishra and Anil Kumar spoke.

The Ganjam Bar Association too celebrated the Madhusudan Jayanti in the District Judge Court premises over which association president Basanta Kumar Panda presided. Four intellectuals, Prafulla Jagannath Padhi, Dr Sudhansu Pati, KK Behera and lingaraj Jena, were honoured on the occasion for their contributions in their respective domains. Among others, former Ganjam Bar Association president and BJP leader Sisir Kumar Padhi and a galaxy of lawyers paid their floral tributes to Madhubabu.

Similarly, the Bahumukhi Samaj Mangal Kendra led by Md Aslam, KC Das and Dr Sankarsan Patra observed the Madhu Jayanti. The Utkal Sammilani, Sambad and Aama Odisha and several other institutions celebrated the day in different parts of the city. Brahmapur IG (Police) Sushant Kumar Nath, Berhampur University Vice-Chancellor Prof DK Behera, BMC Commissioner Dr AK Mishra; Ganjam Bar Association president Basanta Kumar Panda and Prof Pramod Kumar Dwivedi spoke on the contributions of Madhubabu for the formation of Odisha and the pride of Odia people.
