Aamir Khan-starrer PK on Tuesday provoked ire of Bajrang Dal activists here with the members of the Hindu outfit resorting to vandalism accusing the film of hurting religious sentiments.
The protesters shouted slogans, broke the glass counters, pulled down and tore off the posters before setting them afire at cinema halls Keshari and Sriya here. Scores of Bajrang Dal activists assembled in front of Keshari at Kharavel Nagar and shouted slogans in support of their demand to stop screening of the movie. After a while, they pulled down the posters and set them on fire.
“The film insults the Hindu gods and goddesses. It hurts the religious sentiments and the Sanatan Dharma. The movie has been funded by Dubai and Pakistan. Besides, it has been premiered in Dubai,’’ an activist alleged. However, a Keshari hall employee said the film does not depict anything that hurts any religion.
When the protest escalated, police reached Keshari to control the situation and the activists fled the scene fearing police action. Soon after, they shifted their protest venue to the Sriya movie complex and smashed glass panes at the ticket windows to smithereens and tore down posters. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday was quoted saying, “A complaint will go soon to initiate action under the PMlA on Aamir Khan & co for laundering terrorist finance.” Notably, the Raju Hirani-directed PK has received a great response at the box office with the revenue exceeding over Rs200 crore across the country in the first week of its release.
