The 1993 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ramesh Thete who has wagd a war against the State Government over his promotion, has sought permission for fast-unto-death.
In a letter sent to State Chief Secretary Anthony DeSa on Monday Ramesh warned that if the State Government failed to issue his promotion orders by October 5, he would go on fast unto death.
Thete, who currently posted as Deputy Secretary in Urban Development and Environment department, in a two-page letter to the Chief Secretary, raised several questions including his promotion. Repeating allegation of discrimination against him on caste grounds the senior IAS officer demanded from the State Government to issue his promotion orders by October 5. “If the State Government fails to issue my promotion orders than I should be allowed to go on fast unto death from October 6,” Thete added.
Thete said, “I presented several requests with the State Government for my promotion. I met former chief secretaries and to you also in person besides meeting the Chief Minister about a year back with my genuine request about my promotion.”
He further said, “On the one hand I was deprived of promotion by citing a rule while on the other hand officers of the upper caste SR Mohanty and Anupam Rajan were granted promotion with reference of the very same rule. When I wrote letters to Dalit - tribal officers using my constitutional right I was issued show cause notice considering my act as political activity.” While the senior officer Rajesh Rajora who publicly showed inclination towards BJP and went to its office in Bhopal and delivered speech and SK Mishra who touched Chief Minister’s feet on a public stage have been provided patronage by the State Government, he added.
He said that he was disappointed with the treatment which meted out against him due to his caste and warned that this was his last request either issue his promotion orders by October 5 or should allow me him to go on fast unto death.
