Political leaders cutting across party lines on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the office of the RCDC here demanding establishment of the proposed IIM, Odisha at Sambalpur.
They reiterated their opinion that Sambalpur deserves the coveted institute most as it has no Central institute here as of now.
leaders of BJD, BJP, Congress and other political parties, other organisations, trade unions and students’ unions joined the dharna to put pressure on the Government to consider their demand.
SDA Chairman Bijay Mohanty, MlAs Ramesh Patua and Rabi Nayak, BJP leader Suresh Pujari, Congress leader Sriballav Panigrahi and social worker Sapan Misha were among the prominent persons who addressed the gathering.
“An IIM in Sambalpur will be helpful in bridging the regional disparity and mitigating dissatisfaction of the local people,” the speakers observed. later, the leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the RDC.
