Drinking water in water scarcity zone in Daltonganj will be provided through water tankers said the DC Palamu KN Jha. Daltonganj town’s Abadganj mohalla is a highly water starved locality in summer. Every summer sees water on four wheeler here.
For two successive years the Daltonganj Congress MlA KN Tripathy who is now the rural development minister has got run a fleet of water tankers in the town’s difficult water sector here.
The DC Jha said a short term measures have been taken up to mitigate the sufferings of the people on account of scarcity of drinking water here. The mukhiyas have been instructed to ensure the functioning of tube wells and where minor repairs can set right tube wells are to be done at their own level.
A rush team has also been set up with gang men from drinking water and sanitation department for a proper vigilant on the status of tube wells. Drinking water crisis affects the mid day meal too in schools located in the interiors of Palamu where in summer even a functioning tube well loses its contact with water table as level of underground water recedes faster.
As for the surface water management DC said this is a long term aspect of meeting water shortage which is time consuming and entails a good expenditure. In the summer of 2013 MDMs were halted in four schools in Palamu for want of drinking water said sources.
Wild life too suffers most in summer here in Palamu. Only a week ago two langurs reached the river side of Daltonganj town and hopped from one roof to another in search of water. Deer killing in summer too gets high as for water deer strays into human habitation only to be caught and killed said a tiger reserve official here.
