The world class infrastructure erected within the premises of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) - super specialty ward is working with minimum number of doctors.
The 100 bedded hospital equipped with latest technology is thrown open for only cardiac patients. Two faculties, one senior resident, and six junior residents are all to look after 30 bedded cardiac department. Moreover, patients keep waiting at reception area for hours for the doctor’s visit.
Nafiza Khan who came from Gumla to see the doctor explaining her plight said, “I am waiting here past five hours to see my X-ray reports. I have been told to wait for next couple of hours as the concerned doctor is busy in an operation. My last bus for Gumla is at 5:30 pm and it is already 2:30 pm. I am worried how I will manage.”
Not only Nafisa but there were as many as 14 patients who were waiting from morning for the doctor. Meanwhile, the doctors feel themselves helpless as lack of manpower has added extra burden on them. Throwing light on the problems faced by the existing staffs due to acute manpower crunch a doctor who wished not to mention his name said, “Doctors duty is to provide best treatment to its patients but lack of manpower is preventing us from doing the same. We work for almost 20 hours a day. We hardly get time to take rest. It is direst need to increase the manpower at earliest. “
like him, another doctor stated, “Sometimes back to back surgery and then patients’ routine check keep us so busy that we often skip our meal.”
RIMS authorities have placed their demand of recruitment of as many as 12,000 doctors at earliest in front of Health Minister Rajendra Prasad Singh. RIMS Director Tulsi Mahto showing his concern over the problem stated, “The administration is leaving no stone unturned in filling the vacant post and increasing the number of doctors. Due to lack of manpower the plan of opening an emergency ward and OPD is still on cards.”
