Ace archer Deepika eager to cast first vote

Says there is need for good sports academies

Ace archer 19-year-old Deepika Kumari is etching to cast her first vote after being enrolled into the voters’ list this year. Also an icon made by the Election Commission she feels election is a fight of political parties.

Deepika who was participating in TATA National Ranking Archery Tournament-second stage at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on Sunday in a telephonic conversation with The Pioneer expressed her excitement on elections and voting. The archer is said to depart for Shanghai, China for the first out of the four preliminary stages of 2014 Archery World Cup scheduled from April 22 to 27.

On asking about her feelings for this ‘yet to have experience’ she said she is feeling good with the thought of giving vote for the first time. To make this dream come true Deepika’s mother Geeta Devi is making every effort to manage her daughter’s routine so that she could at least cast her first vote in the parliamentary election.

“My daughter will surely vote this year,” said Devi. The elections in Jharkhand will be carried out in three phases covering all the 14 parliamentary constituencies. In Ranchi constituency, the voting date is fixed forApril 17.

“Election days are going on wherein Congress and some other political parties are fighting for seats. I will vote for the candidate of my own choice. All I want is that whoever wins should run the country for the sake of good,” Deepika said.

Regarding her expectations from the State Government, she wants that the Government provides sufficient equipment to the local players on time and makes sure that coaches visit here regularly. She maintained, “There is a need for good sports academies across the nation so that budding talents of rural areas get a platform to nourish their skills. At present they are devoid of better

facilities.” “All of us are hoping to see this positive transformation at the central and state level through this electoral process. I am eager to see this change. Wish it happens,” she added. Her Dronacharya awardee coach Purnima Mahato accompanying in this tour informed that Deepika will return her hometown by Tuesday and is keen to cast her vote. The icon is basically a resident of Ratu Chati, located 15 kilometers from Ranchi city.
