The Kendrapda district administration has registered cases against 86 errant Government officials on the charges of skipping poll duty on April 17 here.

SP Rabi Narayan Behera said the District Election Office recently submitted a report seeking legal action against the officials under various sections of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Accordingly a case was registered at Kendrapara Town police station on Monday. The District Election Office had served non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against 109 Government employees on April 17 for not attending the poll duty and thereby violating the district administration’s direction and model code of conduct.

According to official sources, names of 23 officials were delisted from the NBW list as the district administration found  that they were genuinely sick.Of the 86 employees, 52 skipped the poll duty in politically sensitive Mahakalapada assembly segment.According to legal experts, the employees against whom cases have been registered would be arrested unless they get bail from the court. The Kendrapada Town police are going to start an arrest drive from Wednesday, said the SP.
