As many as 70.64 per cent voters cast their votes in the first phase of urban body elections-2014 in Madhya Pradesh on Friday. Polling was held in 135 urban bodies. These include 9 municipal corporations, 26 Nagar Palika Parishads and 100 Nagar Parishads.
Maximum 75.40 per cent voting was held for Burhanpur and minimum 58.63 percent for Gwalior Municipal Corporation. Similarly, among Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Parishads, maximum 93.91 polling was registered in Nagari Nagar Parishad in Mandsaur district and minimum 63.55 per cent for Bhind Nagar Palika.
Counting of votes of the first phase will he held on December 4. Second phase of polling will be held on December 2. Its counting will be held on December 7. Detailed urban body-wise information is available on website www.mplocalclection.gov.in of the commission.
State Election Commissioner R Parasuram has informed that re-polling will be held at polling booth number 746 of Ward 55 in Gwalior Municipal Corporation on December 2. It is noteworthy that reports had come that anti-social elements had tampered with EVMs during polling on November 28. The commission has directed collector and district election officer to also ensure action under Election Crimes Act.
Meanwhile, a high-level team of Maharashtra State Election Commission will visit Madhya Pradesh till December 4. During the period, they will witness voting through multi-post EVMs and electoral process at Itarsi and Hoshangabad Nagar Palika Parishads. The team will also study innovations. The team comprises DM Kande, AG Jadhav of Maharashtra State Election Commission and one officer each of Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad Municipal Corporations.
