6 Naxals surrender in Kondagaon

Sunday, 31 August 2014 | Staff Reporter | Kondagaon

As many as six hardcore Naxals of the local Barada Dalam of terror outfit Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered on Saturday before Abhishek Meena, Superintendent of Police, Kondagaon district.

The surrendered insurgents were active in forest areas of the restive Bastar region’s Dhanora, Iragaon, Aamabeda and Benur area for the past 12 years.

The local police officials claimed that the surrendered insurgents — identified as Kailash, Udal alias Pilla, Suden, Shiv Yadav, Ghasia and Mangadu — were lured in Naxal activities by Barada lOS Commander, Phoolsingh, Kishore, Sarita and Mayaram with money and firearms at a  young age. Kailash and Udal carried a reward of `15,000 on their head.

“When the insurgents expressed their will to leave Dalam, the Maoist leaders issued death threats against them” said the senior police officers, adding that all the six insurgents have been living away from their families from the past 12 years.

Following the instructions of Naxal organisations, the surrendered insurgents along with Phoolsingh, Kishore, Sarita and Mayaram committed many serious crimes.

The police officials informed that the surrendered insurgents were involved in an attack on police patrolling team in Badgai village on October 15, 2006. In a similar incident, the insurgents injured two policemen by firing at the police party indiscriminately while they were patrolling in Kolenga village on December 15, 2006.

Around six months later, the insurgents again attacked on a police team while they were patrolling in Pawada village on June 3, 2007. Two cops  sustained injuries in the attack.

In a separate incident, the surrendered insurgentsbombed a high school and Ashram’s building on February 9, 2008.

According to the police, the insurgents said that they were disappointed by the high-handedness of senior Maoist cadres particularly those belonging to Andhra Pradesh.

They alleged that the senior leaders from Andhra Pradesh exploited cadres belonging to Chhattisgarh, exploited tribal women and extorted money from Chhattisgarh to send it to their families in Andhra Pradesh.

The surrendered insurgents added that Naxal organizations are given nominal money to operate in Chhattisgarh. The insurgents are not allowed to meet their families, to marry or becoming parents while Naxalites of Andhra Pradesh are living life lavishly. Their children are studying in foreign.

They further alleged that the cadres of Chhattisgarh were never given senior positions in the organisation. The Andhra Pradesh Maoist leaders allegedly ordered to check any development work in Chhattisgarh while restricted cadres from any destruction in their own State. They were frustrated by the high-handedness of senior cadres and wished to come to the mainstream and therefore surrendered, police said.

The senior police officials said that all six insurgents surrendered today due to joint efforts of Kondagaon police and CRPF.

The officers said that the surrendered Naxals will be provided assistance according to State and Central government rehabilitation policies.

The police officials also made an appeal to the people involved in Naxal activities to surrender in any police or CRPF camp and the government is committed to provide all the assistance as per the rehabilitation policies.
