Efforts to eradicate child labour in the Ranchi district hardly seem to be fruitful. According to National Child labour Project (NClP) survey report 2012-13, still there are 3,000 children in Ranchi district who are prey of child labour and only five of them have been rescued so far.
On the eve of National day against child labour Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (JSCPCR) with its stakeholders, main government departments and NGOs conducted meeting to share the strategies to stop child labour in Jharkhand.NClP Assistant labour Commissioner Rajesh Prasad sharing the information about the said, “The survey was conducted door to door and it was found that despite rigorously protesting against the child labour large number of children is still its victim.”
Citing the reason behind the poor graph of rescued children he further added, “There are no shelter homes for these children. In our state there are only two shelter homes which are dedicated only for girls, one in Ranchi and the other one in Gumla. The need of the hour is to develop shelter homes for boys too.”Meanwhile, responding on the demand of shelter homes for the boys Jharkhand State Child Protection Society (JSCPC) Programme Officer Amardeep Kumar said that the plan is of constructing shelter homes for male child is placed on top of their card and plan is to get it done by the end of this year.
Moreover, JSCPCR has also decided to inaugurate a 50 bedded transit home at Ratu Road on the occasion of International Day against Child labour, June 12. The home will provide shelter to the rescued children.JSCPCR Chairperson Roop lakshmi Munda said, “The inauguration of transit home will curb the problem of need of shelter home for the rescued children to some extent. The home is all set to welcome the children.”
Interestingly, state five districts – Ranchi, Bokaro, Hazaribag, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad runs school for orphan children but majority of the people are unaware about it.Jharkhand Education Project Council Member Pramod Kumar urged from the members of JSCPCR to make help the council in generating awareness about the same.
