Two held for hurling bomb in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: Police on Tuesday resolved the bomb-hurling incident at Phulahar village near Alipingal two weeks ago after arresting two accused miscreants. The duo was identified as Asutosh Biswal (21), a resident of Arana under Raghunathpur block, and Sujit Nayak of Nuadihi in the Biridi area. Both were produced in court. Rejecting their bail pleas, the court sent them to jail. On December 16, the miscreants had hurled two bombs at Ashok Kumar Sahoo’s residence at Phulahar village.
Pani Panchayat Rath flagged off in Jajpur
Jajpur: A Pani Panchayat Rath was flagged off here by district Collector Anil Kumar Samal on Friday. The Rath would tour all gram panchayats under the 10 blocks in the district to spread awareness on water conservation. Irrigation Department Executive Engineer, Jajpur Dhaneswar Samal was present, among many officials.
Workshop on millets, agri biodiversity held
Balangir: A workshop on Millets and Agricultural Biodiversity, organised by the Millets Panchyat Bongomunda and supported by Millets Network of India, was held here on Saturday. Speakers at the event stressed on promotion of minor millets crop as it is rich in nutrition and could check malnutrition and ensure food security of poor people. It also helps in reducing global warming as its cultivation requires no use of chemical fertilizers. Among others, District Agriculture Officer RC Naik, Nilamani Mishra, BN Srikant, RS Hota, Dilip Kumar Dhala spoke on the occasion.
JSPl health camp benefits 500 at Joda
Champua: The Jindal Steel and Power limited in collaboration with the Basudevpur CHC organised a health camp under the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) at Murgamahdev and Thkurani villages under Joda block on December 24. Around 500 patients from nearby tribal-dominated villages like Murgabeda, Mahadevnasa, Koldam, Mausipada, Deojhar and Thkurani availed medical benefits, which included distribution of free medicines after free pathological test and diagnosis and prescription by a team of doctors. Seven persons were detected with early stages of fatal diseases like TB, Malnutrition, blindness, etc. They were referred to outside for higher treatment.
Pallishree Mela underway in Bargarh
Bargarh: A State-level handloom exhibition, Pallishree Mela, kicked off at the George High School ground here on the sidelines of the Dhanu Yatra on Saturday. Culture Department Secretary Arabinda Padhee inaugurated the fair, which is a marketing opportunity to bridge the gap between rural innovative producers and urban consumers. A large number of artisans have come with their rural and ethnic products to the exhibition. Outsider participants have been provided with free accommodation and stalls. Among others, district Collector Anjan Kumar Manik, PD DRDA Rajendra Prasad Mund, CEDSMS Rabindra Kumar Pradhan and APD laxman Churia were present at the inaugural function.
