Badal mourns death of Bhagat Singh’s sister

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Parkash Kaur (95), the younger sister of the legendry hero of the nation’s freedom struggle Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, who passed away at Toronto in Canada on Sunday after a prolonged illness. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister shared his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and give courage to them to bear this irreparable loss. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia also mourned the death of Parkash Kaur. In a message, Majithia said that Bibiji was a link between Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, one of the most prominent revolutionaries in the Indian Independence movement against the British rule and present generation. She always worked for welfare of down trodden and under privileged sections of the society. Punjab Congress president, Partap Singh Bajwa also mourned the death describing her as a symbol of the revolutionary spirit that her family represented and was the source of inspiration for the coming generations. He shared his grief with the bereaved family

 

equipment display for school children

Chandigarh: A two-day equipment display for school children by the HQ Western Command is being organised at ‘K’ Area Zirakpur (opposite Baltana) on September 30 and October 1 from 9 am to 1 pm as part of Youth Outreach Programme: Know Your Armed Forces. Students from the Tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula will witness the Armed Forces equipment display. The event is aimed at creating awareness about Armed Forces, motivating and inspiring the students, NCC cadets and youth to choose the Defence forces as a career and join the Armed Forces. Information stalls on armed forces will be put up. Publicity material on the subject will also be distributed. The Western Army Commander lt Gen KJ Singh will inaugurate the ceremony, senior veterans and dignitaries of UT administration will also attend the event.

 

A gate meeting of CTU Conductors Union held

Chandigarh: A gate meeting of CTU Conductors Union held at CTU Depot No. 3, Sector 25 under the leadership of Devinder Singh, President of the union, demanded regularisation of daily wage, work charge employees and contractual employees. Several leaders addressed the gate meeting and spoke on various demands of employees. Union also decided to participate in protest rally being organised by the Coordination Committee of Government and MC Employees and Workers UT Chandigarh on October 14 at 3 pm near cricket stadium.

 

Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya campaign

Chandigarh: A mass cleanliness drive will be carried out in all the schools of Haryana on October 2 as a part of ongoing Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya campaign being launched in all elementary, secondary and senior secondary schools in the State from September 25 to October 31. Spokesman of School Education department said that all District Education Officers concerned would ensure effective implementation of Mass Cleanliness Drive and other activities under the Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya campaign in all Government as well as private schools.

 

Green consumer Day celebrated

Chandigarh: The Eco Club of Maharishi Dayanand Public School, Daria, Chandigarh organised an essay writing competition on a Green Consumer Day with collaboration of the Environment Department of Chandigarh on the school premises on Monday. Students expressed their feelings on clean environment and described about global warming caused by cutting of trees. They stressed to grow more trees for balancing of environment.  

 

All arrangements set for paddy procurement

SAS Nagar: Relevant arrangements for procurement of paddy from the markets have been ensured. The procurement will start from October 1. Each and every paddy grain from the markets will be procured and farmers will not have to face any problem for the same. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu while conducting a meeting with representatives of various procurement agencies and sellers associations, regarding paddy procurement plan during the season on Monday.

 

Badal extends term of nine chairpersons

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday gave nod to grant further extension in the term of nine Chairpersons of the District Planning Committees for another year. Spokesperson of the CMO said that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal cleared the file in this regard this morning. These chairpersons who have been given an extension for a year included Hardip Singh Dhillon (Muktsar Sahib), Ravinder Singh Bhrampura (Tarn Tarn), Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi (Nawan Shahar), Daulat Ram Kamboj (Ferozepur), Joginderpal Singla (Fatehgarh Sahib), Neelam Mahant (Gurdaspur), Jawahar lal Khurana (Hoshiarpur), Satish Mahajan (Pathankot) and Dr Parminder Sharma (Roopnagar).

 

Grandparent’s Day at Banyan Tree School

Chandigarh: Grandparent’s Day was celebrated with excitement and enthusiasm in Banyan Tree School, Sector 48 with the grandparents welcomed in traditional style with ‘Tilak’ by two students at the entrance. lovlin Sharma, coordinator, formally welcomed the guests & commented that ‘Grandparents are there to help the child get into mischief they haven’t thought of yet. She also hosted the program. Grand Parents from the nearby societies were invited for the show. The presidents of these societies were made as the judges of different activities for the grandparents. A cultural programme was staged which started with songs, tiny tots’ dance. A small program was hosted for the grandparents where they actively participated in the Memory game, Musical chair, Who knows better and at last ramp walking. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in different activities were awarded. The KG and Class 1 students participated in their sports show. Prize distribution of the Sports show competition of the children of tiny tots were given away by the hands of the eldest grandparents.
