Two minor siblings drown in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A boy and his sister drowned in a pond while taking bath at Udayapur under Saharapada block in Keonjhar district on Saturday. locals retrieved the bodies of 13-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy. First, the boy had slipped into deep water, and while the girl tried to rescue him she also slipped into the water.

Two die, 10 hurt in M’bhanj road mishap

Baripada: Two labourers were killed and 10 others injured when the van carrying them had a head-on collision with another vehicle in Mayurbhanj district on Friday. A pickup van was carrying the labourers to a worksite when it hit the other vehicle near Balimundali on NH-5. The deceased and the injured were from nearby village. The injured were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here.

5 injured in gas cylinder blast in Jajpur

Jajpur: Five people were injured after a gas cylinder exploded at a grocery shop on Friday evening at Kundapatana near Rasulpur of Jajpur district. The injured were admitted to the Dharmasala CHC and later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. Shopkeeper Anand Sahu had lighted his gas lamp following a power cut. The cylinder exploded suddenly injuring the five persons, including Sahu and four customers.

One dies, 2 injured in JSpur road accident

Jagatsinghpur: A person was killed and two others sustained injuries in a road accident at Sadeipur on the Cuttack-Machhagaon road on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Titina Panigrahi from Borikina under Balikuda block. Titina was travelling by his bike with a pillion rider when another bike from the opposite direction hit it head on.

JSpur hardcore criminal booked under NSA

Jagatsinghpur: The Jagatsinghpur police booked Prashant Das, alias Tapu, a dreaded criminal, under the National Security Act (NSA) on Friday. Tapu, who belongs to Nemaionspur village in Cuttack district, was arrested one week ago. He is now serving as an under-trail in the Alipingal Sub-Jail. Polic said Tapu has about 12 criminal cases pending against him at different police stations in Jagatsinghpur district. Ahead of the Durga puja, the police have expedited the search drive to nab criminals having old warrants.

Parul Gupta takes charge as N’rangpur SP 

Nabarangpur: IPS officer Parul Gupta took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Nabarangpur here on Friday. She took the charge from Brijesh Rai, who has been appointed as the SP of Kalahandi. On assuming office, Gupta said her primary focus would be on promotion of public-police relationship.

Social activist gets Global Achiever’s Award  

Jajpur: Social activist and chairperson of Sattar Smruti Sansad Dr Manzoor Ali received the Global Achiever’s Award from former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Khun Korn Dabbaranasi and Indian Ambassador to Thailand G Balsubramaniam in Bangkok last week.
