Mangala Club win FAO Football league
Bhubaneswar: Mangala Club won the match as Odisha Police gave walk over in the super league round match of the FAO Football league at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday. Another match of the day between Sports Hostel and East Coast Railway ended in goalless draw in the stipulated time. The officials who conducted the match were G Suresh Kumar, PK Pal, Subrat Purohit and Sujit Patra as referees.
Namita Toppo completing 50th International Cap
Bhubaneswar: An Adivasi girl of Odisha’s Namita Toppo Played her 50th International Match today against South Africa at XX Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland. Hockey India congratulates defender Namita Toppo on the occasion of achieving this feat. Having made her debut in 2012 during the FIH Champions Challenge 1 in Dublin, Namita has proved to be an important member in the India Women Hockey team putting up great performances which has helped her to complete her 50 international caps in a period of 2 years. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Narinder Batra, Secretary General, Hockey India said “I congratulate Namita Toppo for achieving this milestone. Her role as a defender has boosted the team’s efforts on keeping the rival forwards at bay and has been instrumental in strengthening the defence line-up, alongwith supporting the goalkeeper in her efforts and performance. We are proud of Namita and look upto her to continue the form in the present Commonwealth Games as well as the upcoming tournaments.” Making her debut in 2012 FIH Champions Challenge 1 in Dublin (Ireland), Namita since then has represented the country in major events including FIH World league Round 2, 2013 held in India, 8th Women’s Asia Cup 2013 in Malaysia, 3rd Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, 2013 in Japan, FIH Champions Challenge 1, 2014 in Glasgow and presently part of the team in the XX Commonwealth Games. She was also part of the Indian team which bagged the historic bronze medal in the Hockey Junior Women World Cup, 2013 in Germany.
