Bhumi Pujan of Balangir water project held
Balangir: local MP Kalikesh Narayn Singh Deo performed Bhumi Pujan for a water supply project at larkipali here on Thursday. The project would be implemented at a cost of `55 crore and be completed in 24 months. Water from the river Tel in Tarbha block of Subarnapur district would be supplied to Balangir town. The water scarcity of the town would be solved after completion of the project, said Singh Deo.
KENDRApada land valuation panel meet held
Kendrapada: The District-level Valuation Committee (DlVC) meeting was held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of district Collector Ratnakar Rout. Earlier, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department had directed the sub-registrars of various departments to submit a proposal for hiking land valuation in order to raise revenues, following which they had proposed a hike by 30 per cent. But it was opposed by the DlVC. The district Collector, meanwhile, has directed the concerned tehsils to submit a detailed proposal on land prices within next 10 days.
Bribery: Kandhamal JE gets 2-yr RI
Phulbani: Vigilance Judge Gorisankar Satpaty after convicting Kantamal block junior engineer Janmejaya Tanti in a bribery case sentenced him to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment and pay fine of `9, 000. He was caught red handed by the Vigilance sleuths while receiving bribe of `6,000 from complainant Asutosh Hota of Manmunda on August 30 last.
Ganja peddler gets 3-yr RI in K’mal
Phulbani: District and Sessions Judge Hiranmaya Bisoi convicted Sameer Ganthia of Walipur in Nayagarh in a ganja smuggling case and awarded him three years of imprisonment under Section 20(6) (II) (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was also asked to pay `25,000 as fine and in default, undergo six months imprisonment. The accused was convicted on basis of statements by 19 witnesses. The Gochapada police had arrested two persons including Bisoi and seized 7.5kg of ganja from possession.
