Hooda to inaugurate SPSC conference today
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would inaugurate the 16th National Conference of State Public Service Commissions (SPSCs) on February 28 at Hotel The Bella Vista in Panchkula. Hooda would be the chief guest on this occasion whereas the chairman, Union Public Service Commission, Prof DP Aggarwal who is also the chairman of National Conference would preside over the conference. Other participants include chairman, Bihar Public Service Commission and chairman of Standing Committee KC Shah and chairmen or members of State Public Service Commissions and the Secretary Union Public Service Commission.
Haryana allots 6,627 posts of PG teachers
Chandigarh: Haryana Education Department has allotted and rationalised 6,627 additional posts of Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in high and senior secondary schools. A spokesman said that the posts of PGT teachers of various subjects from Class 9th to 12th have been rationalised as per rules. 2,279 posts have allotted for English subject whereas 1,758 posts have been allotted for Hindi subject. Similarly, 445 posts have been allotted for economics, 523 posts for biology and 1,622 posts have been allotted for Sanskrit subject.
Bharatiya Mahila bank opens 10th branch
Chandigarh: Bharatiya Mahila Bank ltd, first women’s bank in India and a wholly owned Government institution has opened its 10th branch at Chandigarh. Usha Ananthasubramanian, chairman and managing director of the bank inaugurated the branch at SCO-3, Sector 26. Inaugurating the branch, Usha informed that the bank is designed to cater the needs of women and offers the entire banking and financial services. The access to finance and banking not only helps empower women but also broadens the social base of development, thus fostering equitable growth. The bank is offering an interest of 5 per cent on savings bank account with balance of Rs1 lakh and above and for amount less than Rs1 lakh, the interest rate is 4.5 per cent.
Mahindra launches $1 million ‘Rise Prize’
Chandigarh: The Mahindra Group has launched India’s biggest innovation prize — the ‘Rise Prize’ which offers USD 1 million to drive globally relevant, disruptive innovations while helping build a culture of innovation in India. Film project ‘Aa Gaye Munde UK De’ launched
Chandigarh: The doyen of Punjabi cinema, renowned director Manmohan Singh and producer Sunny Trehan, big name in overseas market, on Thursday announced the launch of their new project Punjabi film — Aa Gaye Munde UK De. In the presence of an eclectic star cast of suave actors Jimmy Shergill, Neeru Bajwa, Guggu Gill, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Rana Ranbir, Ihana and Navneet Nishan, Manmohan launched this movie which is a romantic comedy. Besides the actors present, the movie also stars Deep Dhillon and Khushboo Grewal. Manmohan has penned the story as well as
its screenplay.
Hallmark launches ‘The Sikh Collection’

SBI inaugurates all-women branch at Mohali
Chandigarh: State Bank of India inaugurated a new all-women branch at Mattaur, Sector 70, Mohali on Thursday. Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, chairperson, District Planning Board, Mohali inaugurated the branch and the function was presided over Madhukar Anand, regional manager, Regional Business Office, Punjab. SBI has opened many all-women branches recently with the concept of women empowerment.
4,000 mw UMPP to continue power generation
Chandigarh: Following a CERC order of February 21, a very competitive 4,000-MW Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP) will continue to generate power that is beneficial to consumers. This order is a win-win for the consumers as they will continue to get reliable and competitive power from the Mundra UMPP. The Mundra plant provides power to 5 beneficiary States — Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan at remarkably low rates which will continue to stay as low as Rs2.87 per unit. A spokesperson said this is significant at a time when any replacement power is available at Rs4 per unit upwards in North India. In addition, discoms tend to buy power on short-term basis and that is priced anything from Rs7 per unit upwards.
Venus remedies to enter Myanmar market
Chandigarh: Venus Remedies ltd, a research-based global pharmaceutical company, is all set to stamp its footprint in Southeast Asia with marketing authorisation for its flagship research product, Elores, from Myanmar. The company plans to launch the drug in Myanmar by April.
