Ganjam district has a total of 2,856 booths of which 20 are sensitive due to Maoist activities and 541 because of political activities and rivalries, said Southern Range DIG Amitabh Thakur while addressing reporters here on Sunday.
Thakur said they would keep a strict vigil on the vulnerable booths by deploying adequate security forces. Close circuit cameras will be used in these booths to keep eye on the polling process, he said, adding, “We are trying to sort out the communication problems of five booths located in the cut-off area of Sorada block.”
The DIG said they have already started nabbing culprits have non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against them in the district.“We have planned to engage police personnel from other districts in poll duty with our staff. Even security personnel of the CRPF and the ITBP will be deployed to ensure tight security in the vulnerable booths,” Thakur said.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganjam district Collector Prem Chandra Choudhury said that people of the district can complain to election observers about violation of model code of conduct by the candidates. More than 1,000 election posters have been dismantled after complaints were received about the violation of poll code, he added.
The Collector said the lS and Assembly candidates can take help from the single window system for their campaign and other election related works. “We have provided personal security officers (PSOs) to 30 candidates according to their need,”he said.
