In response to a call given by the BJP national president for soliciting membership, the BJP Youth wing here kicked off its membership drive on Friday.
The drive was led by district BJP Yuva Morcha president Prabhat Kiran Sadangi. Over 1,000 students and youths took the primary membership by dialing toll free No 18002662020 in the presence of State observer Saroj Sabat and associate observer Gopinath Panda.Notably, a membership compaign of the party launched since November 1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already added 60 lakh new members to the party fold at the national level in the first week itself. Modi had launched it by registering himself as the first member of the party and in the first 24 hours itself the membership reportedly crossed 20 lakh.
The BJP has targeted to add 10 crore new members making the party world’s largest political organisation. The campaign will go on across the nation till March 31next.
“To ensure winning prospect of the party in 2019 lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State, the Ganjam district BJP launched the ambitious membership drive. Its emphasis will be on enrolling more youths, students and people from rural areas,” said Ganjam district BJP president Bijaya Kumar Swain.
The party has decided to move beyond its initial plan of recruiting members through technology-enabled platforms like online registrations or “missed calls”. The party is now going all out seeking new supporters across Ganjam district through direct contact with the voters, said senior BJP leader Rama Chandra Panda.
