The district election office, Udham Singh Nagar, has proposed to set up as many as 10 new polling booths in four Assembly constituencies of the district including Jaspur, Kashipur, Nanakmatta and Khatima following an increase of voters in some polling booths of these Assembly constituencies.
Currently, there are as many as 1,257 polling booths spreading across nine different Assembly constituencies of the district.
At the same time, out of the 10 proposed polling booths a maximum four polling booths have to be set up in the Khatima Assembly constituency alone, while remaining three booths have to be opened in the Nanakmatta Assembly segment followed by the Jaspur assembly constituency with two new polling booths and Kashipur Assembly segment with one new polling booth, said officials of the district election office.
However, there will be no changes in the number of polling booths for the rest of five Assembly constituencies of the district including Rudrapur, Bazpur, Gadarpur, Kichha and Sitarganj assembly constituency, the officials said.
As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), there should be maximum 1,400 voters in a polling booth in urban areas and 1,200 voters in rural areas. So, following these guidelines as many as 10 new polling booth have been proposed in these four Assembly constituencies, officials added.
The new polling booths will be set up in the same building where there are more than 1,200 voters in rural areas and more than 1400 voters in the urban areas. A brief roll revision exercise is also being conducted in the district from November 5, 2014 to December 1, 2014. Meanwhile, officials concerned have been advised to take the necessary steps to ensure smooth conduct of the said roll revision exercise.
