The Gaon Sathi Milita Kriyanusthan Committee has threatened to gherao Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on March 5 on the occasion of Biju Patnaik’s birth anniversary if their demands are not met by March 1.
Briefing mediapersons here, committee president laxmidhar Biswal said, “Despite our repeated appeals, agitations and self immolation attempts, the State Government is sitting idly on our demands. Hence, around 1 lakh Gaon Sathis will gherao the Naveen Niwas on March 5.”
The Gaon Sathis have been demanding regularisation of job, permanent appointment in their respective panchayats with a monthly incentive of Rs 4,500, abolition of the five-member village coordinator panel and employment for 200 days a year to the job-card holders instead of the present 100 days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
