Music maestro Zubin Mehta will perform in Chennai during October 2015. Madras Music academy is all set to host the legendary conductor who is returning to Chennai after a gap of 10 years. “Zubin Mehta is coming to Chennai in late 2015 along with a world famous Australian orchestra. He will perform in Madras Music Academy and we have received the official confirmation,” N Murali, president, Madras Music Academy, told The Pioneer.
Murali, who is also the co-chairman of Kasturi and Sons ltd, said it is after a gap of 10 years the music maestro is performing in Chennai. “Zubin Mehta last staged a concert in Madras Music Academy on December 26, 2005 as a tribute to the tsunami victims of December 2004. It was Tamil Nadu’s biggest cultural event,” said Murali. The Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra accompanied Mehta in the 2005 programme. Old timers still recollect each and every second of the maestro's performance in the 2005 concert. “It was a concert in which the maestro held as spellbound for nearly three hours,” said N Kalyanasundaram, a music connoisseur.
Chennai is the only stop in Mehta’s itinerary to India in 2015, according to the Madras Music Academy chief. “The Music Academy has the best acoustic system which is widely appreciated by the music fraternity. It could be the reason why Zubin Mehta chose the city again," he said. 'All I can say is that the Music Season of Chennai in 2015 will be different because of Zubin Mehta,” said Murali.
