In a major development, Sagar Ghosh, a Trinamool leader from Birbhum district is joining the BJP along with other rebel party leaders; sources said adding that Ghosh is currently consulting his close aides regarding the future course of actions.
Sagar Ghosh — whose father Hriday Ghosh was allegedly murdered by Trinamool’s Birbhum strongman and district party president Anubrata Mandal during last year’s panchayat elections — is now a household name in Bengal for winning against Mandal, both politically and legally.Mandal, a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is often seen sharing the dais with her, has not been arrested yet in the case despite being the main accused in the case. While Ansari, a CPI(M) leader, is also joining the BJP, according to party sources.
Ghosh is currently fighting for CBI probe into the case where the State Police has repeatedly been admonished by the Calcutta High Court for its inaction.
Sources in the BJP said that Ghosh’s inclination to join the BJP would prove hugely beneficial for the party in the district where it already has a sizable presence in areas like Mayureshwar. In fact, the BJP has of late displaced the left as the main Opposition party in the district, spreading its tentacles in the minority belts of Ilambazar also where a party worker was recently murdered, allegedly by the Trinamool men.
Though Ghosh — who belongs to Parui block — did not comment on the issue, sources close to him said a number of other local party leaders could be joining the BJP in the near future.Anubrata Mandal and local Trinamool MlA Monirul Islam have allegedly unleashed a reign of terror in the zone.
like Mandal, Islam is also accused in a murder case where he along with his men lynched three CPI (M) workers. While the whole family of the CPI (M) workers fled the village, Islam is roaming scott free. He is often sharing the dais with the Chief Minister, who has apparently provided security and vehicles fitted with hooters to both Islam and Mandal.
