An exuberant Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday declared that the next elections will be held in the state of Telangana.
“Our long cherished dream of having our own state with self-rule is going to be fulfilled soon”, he told a Press conference after the State legislative Assembly passed a resolution rejecting the Bill. KCR, as the Rao is popularly known, said that there was no need for any doubt on the formation of the new state. “I even know the dates on which Parliament will pass the Bill”.
Dismissing Thursday’s events in the State Assembly as inconsequential, KCR said, “Now everything will happen in the national Capital and Parliament will form the Telangana state”.
Announcing that he, along with his party’s elected representatives, were going to New Delhi on Friday, KCR said, “I will come back with separate state of Telangana”.
KCR said that the power of creating a new state was in the hands of Parliament and not the State Assembly. He gave the example of Uttar Pradesh, which did not pass the resolution for carving out the State of Uttaranchal.
“Assembly only gives its opinion and does not pass a resolution”, he said.
KCR said that if majority opinion prevails on the issues like formation of a new state, no new state can be formed in the country. “When problems arise over the formation of new state, Parliament steps in to resolve those issues”.
lashing out at the Seemandhra leaders, KCR said that some politicians were out to sow the seeds of discord between Telangana and Andhra. Instead of opposing Telangana state, these leaders should focus on the development of their own regions.
