Modi hits back at Rahul for development balloon jibe

Monday, 31 March 2014 | Kestur Vasuki | BANGALORE

Ahead of elections the war of words has escalated between the BJP and the Congress. Addressing his rally at Bijapur in Mumbai, Karnataka on Sunday, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi came down on Congress vice-president Rahul  Gandhi and asked him to focus on nation and development rather than criticising Gujarat.

Rahul Gandhi recently questioned the Gujarat Model of development and prophased that the balloon of Gujarat model of development will burst. Today Narendra Modi took on Rahul Gandhi’s balloon jibe and said it was his mother ( Sonia Gandhi) who declared Gujarat as number one.

Modi said, “If you think Gujarat model is a balloon, I want to ask if you trust your motherIJ The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation whose chairperson is your mother, that foundation had declared Gujarat number one. Do you see a balloon in your mother’s talkIJ Does your mother also release balloonsIJ”

Modi addressed a well attended election rally at Bijapur, a stronghold of saffron party, and questioned Rahul’s intention in talking about Gujarat model of development. Modi questioning balloon jibe said people of Gujarat had rejected the Congress leaders’ balloon of lies in the last three Assembly elections.

Retorting to the balloon jibe, Modi said, “You, your party and 18 Chief Ministers came to Gujarat in 2002. And had spoken lies of such balloon. And your balloon of lies was not accepted by the people of Gujarat.”

“You had done the same thing in 2007 and in December 2012. But you could not make the people of Gujarat believe your lies. People were seeing development and that is why people have elected BJP,” he said.

“Shehzade these days talks about Gujarat...Is this election to elect the Gujarat GovernmentIJ Will its CM be electedIJ The election is to elect the Prime Minister...To form the Government in Delhi. Therefore, shouldn’t the discussion be of the country’s GovernmentIJ,” Modi said adding that Congress should explain what it did in their 10 years of rule.
