K'taka CM denies infighting in Cong

Friday, 31 January 2014 | Kestur Vasuki | BANGALORE

Contrary to critique inside the Congress, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted on Thursday that the outcome of lok Sabha elections will not have any bearing on his Government. Replying to the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assembly, Siddaramaiah said he will continue to be the Chief Minister for the full term whatever the outcome of lok Saba elections.

He said, “Whatever may be the results of lok Saba elections, I will continue to be in power and complete the full term in office.”

Siddaramaiah’s assertion has surprised many in the Congress and the corridors of power were in full swing of gossips about his assertion. In fact a senior Congress leader feels Chief Minister’s statement was aimed at a few Congress leaders who are critical about him. He said, "I feel it is aimed at a few Congress leaders and MlAs who have openly questioned his style of functioning in a recent ClP meeting."

Further Chief Minister denied any rebellion or infighting within the party. He said, "It is the rumours spread by Opposition parties. We are like a rock together and my Government is intact and stable. I am going to be in the helm of affairs for another four years. I will strive hard to provide able administration and there is no need for any doubt in this regard."

Siddaramaiah said that he had worked with five Chief Ministers and will discharge his duties honestly and there is no truth in Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar's allegation that he has compromised against self-respect. "If there is any threat to my self-respect, I will resign. I don't want to be in power without self-respect," he added.

On the last day of the Winter Session of the Assembly, in his reply to the discussion on motion of vote of thanks to Governor's address to the joint House on January 22, Siddaramaiah said the BJP-led NDA was dreaming of coming to power at the Centre after lS elections but it won't happen.

"The BJP when it came to power for the first time in 2008 in the State, it had claimed that it would be in power for another 20 years but it was pushed to Opposition in the last elections," he added.

Siddaramaiah, throughout his speech, blamed the Opposition and also answered his own party members who are quite critical of him. He rejected Opposition’s charges on inducting two tainted MlAs to his Ministry.
