Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to order a single-day socio-economic survey in all the ten districts of the State.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Chief Minister with the secretaries of all the departments. The Chief Minister said that all the welfare schemes would be implemented on basis of the survey. He wanted the officials to ensure that every household participates in the survey to make it truly comprehensive. The decision was taken in the backdrop of a series of measures initiated by Telangana State Government to loop the leakages in the welfare schemes.
Apart from launching a drive to weed out the bogus white ration cards, the State Government has also ordered a CID probe in to housing scam which has apparently caused a lot of Rs 2,305 crore to the State exchequer. The probe will cover all the housing schemes taken up from 2004 till now. The inquiry was ordered after it was found that while records shows the construction and distribution of 22.4 lakh houses, but number of beneficiaries in reality was much less. A social audit in 593 villages alone showed a short fall of 36,000 houses.
It is estimated that the leakages in various welfare schemes had to a loss of Rs 10000 crore. The drive against the State Government has already resulted in surrendering of 2,00,000 bogus white ration cards, which were being used not only to draw the subsidised ration from the Government outlets but also to benefit from the free medical care.
