Congress candidate from Wardhannapet Assembly constituency in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh attempted suicide on Tuesday morning, police said.K Sridhar, who was found unconscious in Hasanparthy mandal of the constituency was rushed to a private hospital after he consumed sleeping pills in large quantity.Doctors have described his condition as critical. Police are investigating the cause of the attempted suicide but sources said that the candidate was depressed over a report of a TV channel alleging he had taken money from a rival candidate to withdraw from the contest. Supporters of Sridhar, who had gathered at the hospital, shouted slogans against the channel.Telangana Congress chief Ponnala lakshmaiah and other leaders visited the hospital to enquire about his condition.
