New Delhi: Opposing special privileges given to MPs, lok Sabha member Ajoy Kumar on Thursday sought revocation of all such privileges granted by airlines to politicians, bureaucrats and judges. In a letter to DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar, the MP from Jamshedpur representing JVM (P) said he was against granting special privileges which a normal citizen does not have access to. “Politicians can be absolutely abrasive and very uncouth at airports and misuse the respect which is accorded to their office. However, politicians are only one part of the issue,” he said adding, “the biggest abuse of the special privileges is done by bureaucrats and judges.”
SC furious over illegal slaughterhouses
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed its anguish that despite its orders, various guidelines and legal provisions are not followed by slaughterhouses and many of them are functioning without any licence in many parts of country.
Rahul ‘in agreement’ with CS aspirants

108 songs on Mahatma Gandhi released
New Delhi: A new music album comprising 108 songs dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi penned by poets from across the country in 14 languages including Kashmiri, Sindhi and Urdu has been launched. The album is part of a two-decade-old project BapuGeetika: Songs for the Mahatma conceived by retired Government officer Kalpana Palkhiwala.
‘Cong will focus on BPl, middle class’
New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who is into the party's manifesto-making exercise, on Thursday said that the party will focus on people falling between BPl and middle class to give them a better life and basic social security. Conducting discussions with activists of trade unions, Rahul sought a direct feedback from labourers and street vendors for the lok Sabha poll manifesto. He said that 70 crore people falling in this strata should have a concrete base support so that they are assured that whatever be the circumstances, their condition will not plummet beyond that base.
Milk adulteration: SC gives 3 weeks to states
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday gave States three weeks' time to inform about the steps being taken to prevent milk adulteration. The order comes almost two months after the apex court on December 5 last had wished to know if the offence of adding adulterants to milk such as detergent, white paint, oil, shampoo and other chemicals must carry a maximum punishment of life term in order to deter persons indulging in such crimes. The Food Safety and Standards Act provided for a maximum jail term of six months.
