Winter gives city the shivers

Delhi continued to reel under cold conditions as a thick blanket of fog engulfed the city affecting the visibility and severely disrupting air and rail traffic. The maximum temperature settled a notch above the season’s average at 20°C while the minimum was recorded at 4.5°C, three notches below normal. While 27 flights were delayed, nearly 90 trains were running late due to fog. According to a Northern Railways official, six trains were cancelled while 79 trains are running late due to the adverse weather conditions and departure timings of 10 others had to be rescheduled. The visibility, Met Department officials said was 500 meters at 5.30 am, which decreased significantly to 50 meters at 8.30 am.

At 11.30 am, it was recorded at 600 meters, which improved to 1200 meters at 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm. The weatherman has predicted clear sky for Wednesday with possibility of moderate to dense fog in the morning. “The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 20°C and 6°C,” said an IMD official.
