Security on alert ahead of last 'Mata Ki Chowki'

The prohibitory order in riot-hit Trilokpuri areas was relaxed from 7 am to 6 pm. The residents happily stepped out for work as normalcy restored in the area. Friday being the last day of the Mata Ki Chowki, the police officers have tightened the security in the area to make sure no untoward incident take place in any of the blocks. Cops will have additional job of ‘social policing’ besides monitoring the situation. The police officers will be ready in their riot gear to make sure that the evening prayers of different communities are not hampered.

In their bid to bring peace and harmony in the riot-struck Trilokpuri area, the Delhi Police has decided to pick up volunteers from each block. They also  organised a programme to unite people of various communities in the area. The police officers will also start a campaign on watsapp preaching the same.

A block-to-block campaign was started by the Delhi Police to make sure that peace and normal life is restored in the area. All the Station House Officers have been instructed to cover their respective areas and interact with residents and find out if they have any issues and problems. On Thursday, the campaign was started by the Delhi Police where senior officers, including the Joint Commissioner of Eastern Range, Sanjay Beniwal, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar were present for a face-to-face interaction. After the violent clashes broke out in the East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area on Diwali, the cops were left to wonder on what exactly triggered the violence. With different tales to tell and fear in the eyes of the residents, the ground-level interaction was a much needed break.

The police officers first visited block 21 and spoke to the people. “The agenda behind this interaction was to speak to the public and be connected with them at the grass-root level. The problems which began need to be dealt with patiently. Not everything is done by the fear but by words and love,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal.

The block-to-block interaction sessions were held in blocks 21, 28, 27 and 15. Block 27 was the worst-affected during the riots and it was a moment of pride when the Muslims living in the block came out and sang the National Anthem along with the people of other communities. The police officers asked the residents to nominate around 30 people who will be connected with senior police officers including the Joint Commissioner of the Range and will keep them posted about things which will make the officers have a larger public interface. In order to spread harmony and love the police officers are also planning to ask the Muslims community to serve prasad during the Mata ki Chowki and the Hindus to guard the route of the procession when Muharram is observed.
