Two minor boys, ages 8 and 11, were allegedly murdered in the Sangam Vihar area of South-East Delhi. The boys had gone to the woods to fetch firewood. Their bodies were discovered in the thicket by their family. The bodies bore multiple injury marks and their heads were bludgeoned with a stone lying next to them. The boys were purportedly sodomised given that they were found naked.
According to police, the bodies of the two minors were discovered around 10.30 pm in the woods near a temple at Harijan Basti in Sangam Vihar’s K-Block. The two boys were friends and lived close by. Mohammad Tahid, elder brother of one of the minors, said the boys left home around 3.30 pm to play in a park near the woods. His 11-year-old brother generally played for an hour and returned home with firewood before sundown but on Monday, he never returned. Neither did his 8-year-old friend.
“My friends searched the woods on our bikes. Despite our mother going to the police station to file a missing person’s diary, none of the police officers reacted,” said Tahid. In the woods, Tahid chanced upon his younger brother’s pullover and his friend’s jacket. “I inched ahead and saw a small fire, leftover food, syringes and liquor bottles. It appeared as if some men were having a get-together,” said Tahid, adding, “We found the boys on a mudhill with their throats slit and faces smashed in. They were both in a state of undress. We suspect they might have been assaulted by the men having a blowout.”
