Delhi Police on Sunday organised a football match in the Capital as part of a social exercise to prevent discrimination against India’s North-East people in Delhi today. Officials claimed that by increasing their interaction with the locals the menace of discrimination can be stopped.
“Some incidents of discrimination in the past against the North Eastern region students indicates that there is less or lack of interaction between the locals and them,” said Dr A Koan, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West District). The football match organised by the North-West District Police of Delhi at the Sports Ground at the New Police lines, Kingsway Camp.
The match took place at about 4 pm on Saturday. Two teams were formed with each comprising half the players who are locals and the other half who are from the North East. “This match served the purpose of mutual interaction and regional harmony,” said Koan. The winning team was awarded with the trophy. After the completion of the match, a get-together was organised with refreshments. “These types of activities will be carried out in the future so that peace could be established among the people and students of North-East and locals,” Koan added.
