Delhi experienced the hottest April 29 since 2010 as Tuesday’s maximum temperature settled at 41°C, two notches above the season’s average. Delhiites must be ready with their brollies while stepping out in the sun as the Met Department has predicted only soaring temperatures in the coming days.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in 2009 was 42°C on the same date, whereas, 2010 witnessed 41°C on April 29.
Delhi residents had a tough time as the city reeled under the scorching sun and the sky remained clear through the day. Those riding two-wheelers in particular were seen covered in scarves to protect themselves. “It was pleasant in the morning but the afternoon was extremely hot today. The sun is becoming unbearable. I hope the temperatures will drop a bit in a couple of days,” said Ajay Batra, 26, a sales executive, who commutes by motorcycle.
However, the IMD has forecast no respite and has predicted temperatures to rise further on Wednesday. “The sky will remain clear through the day and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42°C and the minimum will settle around 23°C,” said an IMD official.Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.6°C, two notches below the season’s average.Humidity levels oscillated between 58 per cent and 18 per cent. Monday’s maximum temperature was recorded a notch below the season’s average at 39.5°C, while the minimum temperature was three notches below the season’s average at 21°C.
