In a major haul, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has recovered 36 kg of heroin from a gang of drug peddlers and arrested five in this regard. The seized contraband consignment has been valued over approximately Rs150 crore in the international market. Out of the five accused persons two were Afghan nationals. Their interrogation revealed the mastermind of the gang is based in Kuwait and coordinates with various Afghan peddlers.
“The accused have been identified as Mohd Zamir alias Doctor (46), Baba Fakruddin Sheikh (40), Saleem Khan (52), Mohammad (48) and Sakiba (33),” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav. On July 26, a concrete information was received that a person code named ‘Doctor’ would deliver a contraband to a person namely Fakruddin, during late hours near Engineers India limited Office in Bhikaji Cama Place. A trap was laid and the duo was nabbed. A bag carrying 8 kgs of heroin was recovered from Zamir’s possession and Fakruddin carried 200 gms of heroin in the front left side pocket of his trousers. On the basis of disclosure made by Zamir, another accused Salim was arrested from Jama Masjid area and 20 kgs of heroin, kept in two separate plastic bags, was recovered from his godown in the area. During interrogation, Salim disclosed that he and his associate Mohammad, an Afghani national received a consignment of 36 kgs of heroin. The heroin had been smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan and had entered India through the rail route using the Thar Express train which crosses over from the Munnabao check post in Rajasthan. The heroin was concealed in the soles of ladies sandals to avoid detection.
