In a crackdown against corruption in police force, six constables were suspended on Sunday after they were allegedly found extorting money during a surprise check by the Senior Superintendent of Police.
SSP Dharmendra Singh on Sunday morning suspended six police constables for being found involved in illegal activities, said a senior police official. The suspension came after SSP Singh along with Sahibabad police station SHO Hardayal Yadav conducted surprise checks on Saturday night in the Sahibabad area and found the constables extorting money from truck drivers and others, he said.
SSP Dharmendra Singh carried out the checks in plainclothes and caught the constables taking money from drivers, he said. “Six constables have been suspended by the SSP for their involvement in illegal activities. A departmental inquiry has also been set up to probe the matter,” said the official. SSP decided to check the police points after he received complaints that constables were involved in brazen extortion, especially those posted at GT Road police pickets, the official added.
