Brand TJ turnover sees record increase

Friday, 28 February 2014 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The jail factory at the Tihar Prisons achieved a record turnover of Rs 32.17 crore during the year 2012-2013 against the turnover of Rs 12 crore of the previous years.

A total of six units are there in the jail factory, namely tailoring, paper, carpentry, weaving, chemical and bakery. The major reason for this turnover is the contribution from the carpentry unit. “The schooldesk project for all Government schools in Delhi was a major boost for the unit. Earlier around 225 desks were daily manufactured which increased to 400 desks,” DG of Prisons Vimlaa Mehra said. Out of the total turnover of 32.17 crore; 23.14 crore comes exclusively from the carpentry unit.
