Ajay Maken will be Cong candidate for New Delhi lS seat

Congress spokesperson and Member of Parliament from New Delhi Parliamentary constituency Ajay Maken was unanimously declared the lok Sabha candidate for this seat as no other leader of the party on Thursday came forward to enter the contest for the seat under Rahul Gandhi-promoted US-style Primaries system, though the formal announcement will be made on March 1.

Around 12.30 pm, Maken submitted 12 sets of application at the Pradesh office; each signed and proposed by 20 representatives of the party who were also among the 303 voters selected for this purpose. The figure of voters supported him rose to almost 240. There was no other applicant and therefore he emerged as the unanimous candidate. After the filing the nomination, Maken said, “Congress workers have faith in me. Out of 303 voters, I have got the support of 233 voters.”

Former MlA Hari Shankar Gupta, who is the election in-charge of New Delhi Parliamentary constituency, announced that sitting MP Ajay Maken has filed his nomination under Primaries project and will now be the candidate from New Delhi lok Sabha seat. Gupta said since only one nomination has been filed for New Delhi seat, voting, which was scheduled to be held on March 6, will not take place. This process for North East Delhi lok Sabha seat started on Wednesday and application for remaining five lS seats has also been invited.
