The Aam Aadmi Party would come out with its first list of candidates for the lok Sabha polls on February 7. The party said on Thursday that it would contest elections on at least 350 parliamentary seats. The party claimed that of these 350 seats, at least 162 sitting MPs have criminal charges against them. Of these, 73 MPs face grave criminal charges, the party claimed.
Party’s national spokesperson, Sanjay Singh said that the national executive council (NEC) meet on Friday will decide the issues on which the upcoming general elections will be contested. A draft of the issues has been prepared, which will be finalised on Friday.
“The main issues will be corruption and criminalisation of politics. The removal of 15 Ministers and other MPs who are accused of indulging in corruption will also be one of the issues,” Singh said.
The party in its manifesto had alleged that 162 politicians across India have criminal background out of which 73 face charges of heinous crime. The party however, said that it may reduce the number of candidates if it is unable to find candidates who fulfil the parameter.
The party had earlier said that it wants to contest on 400 seats. In the NEC meet, the party will discuss strategies for different States ahead of the polls and will also analyse its popularity in different constituencies across the country before fielding candidates. The NEC meeting, second in a month, holds significance as the party is likely to announce the first list of candidates for the lok Sabha polls.
