In order to improve and strengthen the security system in Asia’s largest Tihar Jail, the Delhi Prisons authorities have decided to install X-ray based full human body scanners, X-ray baggage scanner machines, multi-zone door frame metal detector, deep search metal detector, hand held metal detectors and FG1 security pole at Rohini district jail and Mandoli Jail respectively.
These new-fangled lockdown tech will be provided in these jails so that the smuggling of prohibited items like surgical blades, tobacco, narcotics, knives and mobile phones could be stopped from entering inside the jail. These security devices have been requisitioned under the Action Plan-2014-15 submitted to the Secretary (Home), Government of Delhi.
The document says that these security equipment are needed to curb the smuggling of prohibited items into jails. The prisons authority are facing security problem as number of inmates are indulging in smuggling of prohibited items like cell phone, blades, knife, narcotics, etc. in their body cavity. Initially two X-ray scanner machines of each category will be installed with the cost of Rs 6 crore each.
The jail authorities have said to install X-ray baggage scanner machines for checking of bags and baggage of prisoners and multi-zone door frame metal detector will be fixed in jails later for detecting smuggling of prohibited items apart from frisking and searching each person thoroughly at the time of the entry in the jail.
